Joe Mixon, RB of the Bengals, is currently being drafted around the 19th spot. He is clearly being overlooked as he was the AFC’s leading rusher in 14 games on a Bengals team that lost 9 out of its last 11 games. Mixon rarely had any game scripts go right for him but was still able to produce 1,464 yards, 9 TDs, and zero fumbles, Along with coming off a breakout season, the 22-year-old is going to have a much better coach than Marvin Lewis. The Bengals are now being led by Zac Taylor who was an assistant under Sean McVay and the LA Rams for the last two seasons. Taylor has said that he looks to use the Rams offense as a starting point for the Bengals playbook. During his time with the Rams, Todd Gurley was the top fantasy running back in that time frame. Both RBs averaged 4.9 yards per carry, but according to advanced stats from NextGenStats.com, Gurley had more advantageous situations, and Mixon tended to do more with the opportunities he was given. The Bengals also suffered many injuries and are looking to start the NFL season completely healthy. I fully expect Mixon, an every-down back, to regress positively in TD opportunities and explode into a top 3 fantasy football running back this upcoming season.
